The pre-order box, by itself, is 10.00. This DOES apply towards the game.
When you buy BOTH products AT THE SAME TIME, you get a $5 discount on the pre-release bonus pack.
..but again..
You would still only get $10 towards the game when it comes out (not $14.99).
The packaging doesn't make this clear (or maybe I'm just really tired, heh).

I'm pretty sure there is only one box and that is the pre-release bonus pack. No website, not even the official GW site, says anything about a standard preorder box other than the bonus pack. Unless you just mean that Bestbuy has specially marked only certain bonus packs to be deducted from the final cost of the game, this makes no sense. Also, I got the bonus pack for $5 all of which applies to the final cost of the game.

I was informed that this was due to the "Restocking Fee"... Bog, charge the person returning the item, and the next customer to purchase it both a restocking fee? That's ridiculous... [/rant]

They are making a double profit off of that one item. The 15-20% restocking fee is really their profit margin...so they have already made their profit from that first person and now making the extra profit by reselling it.

Just want to add an update on the pre-release pack as far as Best Buy is concerned.
I went to best buy today and they had the Pre-Order boxes on the shelves next to Prophesies and Factions boxes. There were no Pre Release Bonus Packs in sight.
I asked the sales rep and he brought be to the department register where they had a seperate little display of both Pre-order and Pre release bonus packs avaiable. They had just come into the store yesterday Thursday 10/5.
The PreOrder box is just an empty cardbord Nighfall game box
The pre release bonus pack is more like a DVD case, both have the same Nightfall Dervish on the cover

I beleive that Asrial and others are correct on the above
HOWEVER!!! -
BOTH - the sales rep and the cashier INSISTED that the $9.99 i spent on the Pre-Release Bonus Pack will be credited when I return to buy the Standard or CE of Nightfall. They were both aware that the pre-release bonus pack is different from the pre-order box. Of course I have nothing in writing that states that the 9.99 will go towards Nightfall. I only bring this up because it is certainly causing confusion among gamers and store employees alike.
Hoo-boy - It only gets deeper and deeper, doesn't it?

That has got to be one of the stupidest things I ever read. To anyone that would like to avoid a headache, I suggest you just buy it somewhere else like Compusa.

I got the same thing in my Gamestop. Went to the store, told the rep i want to preorder Nightfall CE. He gave me the bonus pack.

Hmm, "your mileage may vary". My San Antonio Gamestop asked for $5 deposit, and then another $4.99 + tax for the bonus pack.
Meh, I have it now, that's the important thing.

It depends on which UPC code they scan when you check out. The empty box will get you $10 off when you return. The bonus pack may not be treated the same.

I had the same situation occur for me Bokken. The sales rep. told me the pre-release bonus pack would be credited when I bought the full game. I hope he's right, cause I didn't really need to buy another character slot and some trailer movies right now.
I'm only pre-ordering from BestBuy cause their prices are pretty cheap for new releases. When Factions was released I think it was on sale at BestBuy for $39.99, but I already pre-ordered it elsewhere.

Mordakai, could be that the sales rep i got was new and didn't notice that the bonus pack costed an extra $6 dollars. Either way, i'm happy that i got my pre-order done.

Actually, as I recall, Best Buy broke their usual mode of $10 cheaper and was a full $49.99. You got $10 off for pre-ordering which doesn't exactly count as cheaper. Luckily, a friend pointed me to a coupon for Best Buy for $10 off any game that was set to expire that week, so I got it for the $39.99.

I was in a BB today, and didn't see anything NF related. They did have both Prophecies and Factions for $49.99 each, and Auto Assault for $9.99. I chuckled at the last one. Also, I swear the game section got smaller.

FT, be sure to ask the Best Buy reps. I had to hound the guys til they looked it up on RSS (their in store inventory program) and then the light bulb went off.

I went to Best Buy today and saw both the pre-order boxes and pre-release bonus packs.
When I took both up to the register, I was charged $20. I asked about the cost and was told that $10 would be applied as a deposit when I purchased Nightfall. I had them void the sale and left.
I then went to EBGames and put down a $5 deposit for the NF:CE and was given the Pre-release bonus pack for free. They said that if I had put the deposit down on the standard edition, the bonus pack would have been $5.
